Medication reviews- 6 month visits

In Australia, the maximum time allowed between vet visits for an ongoing prescription for most long-term medications is generally six months. This is a legal requirement set by state and territory government regulations and veterinary boards to ensure the health and safety of the animal.

-
Pet Aging: Pets age much faster than humans, so a six- monthly check-up is equivalent to a person visiting their doctor every 3.5 human years, allowing vets to catch health changes early.
-
Medication Review: These regular appointments allow the vet to:
o Assess if the pet's condition has changed or if new issues are developing.
o Check for any potential side effects of the medication through physical exams, blood tests, or urine tests.
o Adjust the dosage if needed, as medications are often based on body weight which can fluctuate.
o Discuss new or more appropriate treatment options.

If your pet has not been seen within the last six months, you will be required to book a consultation before the
clinic can dispense further medication. It is recommended to order repeat prescriptions in advance (typically allowing 24-48 hours) to avoid running out of medication.
